In November 2011 there was finally some movement with regard to the TomTom navigation for Android platform. On November 29th 2011 the TomTom Places’ Android app was released for select European countries. The lucky ones were: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and The Netherlands. The app for Spain was released a few weeks later in December. They were all available in local languages. (Full press release with more details is here.)
This is certainly a good news and the users from these countries (or traveling to these countries) can enjoy the benefits of this handy tool (we will be doing a review of it in the near future once we get a chance to test it on the road). But where is the full TomTom Android app? Will there even be one? Is the Places app a sign that the full turn-by-turn navigation app for Android is in the making?
We have been waiting for it for a very long time, hopefully TomTom will answer our prayers soon. Unfortunately there is no mention whatsoever about the full navigation app in the press release about Places app.
